About ACRA
Our mission at ACRA is to rescue unwanted dogs/puppies from shelters or homes and adopt them to loving forever homes. We provide foster care and obtain vet care if needed until an approved and suitable home is found. We have a stringent screening process for adoptions that includes home visits, vet reference checking, and suitability matching based on the individual dog’s personality and needs and the prospective adoptee’s situation. We do our best to ensure the dogs are healthy and of sound temperament, and to match the right dog with the right family. Our goal is a Forever Home for each dog. Our slogan is Saving God’s Canines, One at a Time.
Today, we are an active rescue operation with 18 foster home volunteers and a group of ten shelters that we work with regularly, in places as far away as the Bahamas and Puerto Rico. Our dogs are transported safely through a relay network of transport volunteers and coordinators, who volunteer their time (and their homes, in some cases) to bring our dogs into WNY to the waiting hands of our foster families. From 22 dogs in our first year in 2008, we have placed a total of over 2000 dogs in forever homes. We have an active web presence on Facebook and are members of Petfinder.com. We provide community outreach through participation in pet-related events held throughout the area and also through adoption events at local pet supply retailers. We also offer puppy social classes and obedience training with Canine and Company in Depew. We have Federal non-profit 501(c) 3 status and all donations are tax-deductible and can be made via our Paypal site.

Training and Seminars
We plan to offer a range of training courses for our adopters, including puppy. training and socialization, obedience, and refresher training for both adopters and for our foster caretakers. Also, expect to see, when available, seminars on canine body language, first aid tips, and lots more.
Events
In addition to our regular adoption events, we hope to present community social events, dog washes, fundraisers, and fairs, and to host mobile vaccination units and other free services provided by local animal welfare services..
Animal Advocacy
Our responsibility to the animal community includes working with humane organizations like American Service Dogs and Citizens Against Puppy Mills. We plan to host educational and advocacy seminars, meetings, and speakers from diverse organizations to extend our reach and make the lives of our "angels" better. In addition, we expect to act as a drop-off point for rescue transports, in a safer, more controlled environment than the parking lots and streets we use today.

GUESS WHO’S FINALLY GETTING A FOREVER HOME ?
WE ARE!
ACRA has a great opportunity to acquire a 2-story building to use as a permanent foster, training, and events facility for our rescued angels and to support rescue and humane non-profit organizations throughout the area.
But we need your help!

Our proposed new building is about 3,000 square feet, two floors and spacious enough for us to not only provide housing for rescued dogs but to also hold training and refresher courses for our adopters and their families, to have special events for adoptions and education, and to work with other advocacy groups to improve the lives of God's animals all over this area and western New York.
But we can't do it without your help! We need to raise $100,000 to bring this dream to life. We know that's a lot but it will help us do so much ... for our dogs, our adopters, and our community.

WILL YOU HELP?
Since ACRA's inception, we have often felt we could have a greater impact on our dogs, our adopters, and our community if we had a permanent location to work from. Without it, we are dependent on the availability of others - to house emergency rescues, to provide obedience and other forms of training to our adopters, to host adoption events, and to have seminars and work with other advocacy groups such as Citizens Against Puppy Mills. With our own facility, our dogs in foster care can participate in more structured programs with our foster caretakers to better prepare them for basic obedience and to work on difficult cases requiring a more experienced approach. We can invite prospective adopters to meet 'n greet our ACRA dogs in a controlled setting, giving people a better and more comfortable opportunity to get to know a dog before adopting. We can save more dogs, impact more lives, and initiate real change in our community.
